BASTROP COUNTY OFFICIALS INVESTIGATE POSSIBILITY WILDFIRE WAS INTENTIONALLY SET

Bastrop County officials are re-evaluating the possible cause of the wildfire that has destroyed sixty four homes and burned 4,600 acres since Tuesday.

The fire is now 80 percent contained.

Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape says the fire may have been “intentionally set” by someone who may have violated the county’s burn ban, however the cause remains officially undetermined.

The cause was originally determined to be a farm accident, and was started on the Luecke Farm, northeast of Buescher State Park, north of Smithville, but is still under investigation.

Some residents have been allowed to return home to view the damage to their homes.
