CALDWELL VOTERS DECIDE AGAINST TAX INCREASE
The tax increase Caldwell voters were asked to approve on Saturday was narrowly voted down.
The proposed tax increase was defeated by only 84 votes.
The increase would have added an additional thirteen cents to the Maintenance tax rate, and would have brought in 1.1 million dollars.
The rate is currently at $1.04.
According to Superintendent Timothy Cuff, the failure of the passage of the tax increase will result in a reduction of forty staff members by “attrition and retirement.”
Cuff says that the next step is to look to present a lower tax rate increase, and says that without the increase of funds, the district will work on the ratios between teachers and students.
