  1. This will never come to a vote until dems or progressives dominate state house. Until then it’s just a money pile. WaWa, get a life.

  2. Mr. Dumas owned up to his mistake and admitted to having an illegal substance to Officer Andras. This charge won’t ruin his life. Whether you smoke or not, it is still illegal. Until that changes, (which in my opinion it will) don’t get caught with it. If you do take your punishment and stop blaming the system.

  3. I don’t care about the money part of this issue! Pot is not good for anyone! Legalizing drugs does not make it right morally! God does not want anyone being influenced by this! God wants to influence everyone by His Word! I’ll follow God and not sinful people’s opinions! Keep this illegal in Texas and hopefully everywhere! Does anyone want there kids to smoke pot? I seriously hope not!

    1. Enlighten me; where does ‘God’ specify that pot is bad for people or forbidden to them?

      1. Read the Bible! Also it’s common sense that pot is a sinful activity when used for getting high! I’m not talking about medicine use! Drugs to get high are not good for anyone except if they help with a medical condition! Let’s be honest because most people use it for the wrong reasons!

  4. Alcohol is way worse than marijuana. I never seen a pothead go through DTS because he can’t get more pot. Yet alcohol is legal , alcohol is physically addictive just like xanax and heroin. Truth be told marijuana has no detox

    1. He was driving while taking a drug that slows down his reaction time.
If that drug were alcohol, he would be just as arrested as for pot.
You pot people love to preach that it’s safer than alcohol.
You should understand that’s not saying much.
      Don’t drive drunk OR high.

  5. Too much money is made by the private sector in all cases involving pot. The lawyers, privately run prisons, rehabs, etc.. If legalized, the state and taxpayers would benefit immensely from the taxes levied on pot sales. But those private concerns have strong lobbies that fill the politicians pockets, so guess what? We lose again.

  6. What will all these officers do once pot is legal? I’ve never smoked in my 47 years on the planet but I don’t hold it against those that do. And BTW trix…..I bet you’ve never exceeded the speed limit, ran a stop sign……blah blah blah. You get my point. Cops should be focusing on real crime instead of piddly stuff like this. The LAW allows police to use discretion in their authority…i.e. warning citations, verbal warnings and so on. Evidently this officer chose to arrest instead and so be it but he could have just as easily given a warning. But the real truth is that this law is a money maker for the city and State of Texas and that’s why it’s still enforced. Common sense should prevail- alcohol kills and injures way many more people than this stuff but you don’t see near as many arrests….why? Because Washington County has a very high level of drinkers, many of which are supporters of community leaders and also some are the leaders, including police officers……if you don’t believe me just google it and you will see.

All in all, this is really not a HUGE issue but it is a law on the books equivalent to jay walking, in my opinion. Unfortunately, in todays world, those that make the money make the rules…..whether you like them or not. And that’s the way it looks to this Chappell Hill Resident.

    1. Yes, I have exceeded the speed limit and got caught. But I didn’t blame the law. I knew what the law was, chose to disobey it, and got a ticket like I deserved.

  7. Why when someone gets arrested for marijuana possession in this county people praise and cheer but when a real criminal (sex offender, thief, etc) gets apprehended no one has anything to say? Going after the wrong “criminals” here. Wasted efforts on behalf of the community and law enforcement to arrest people for dime bags of weed

  8. The community is not any safer and now a young man has an arrest on his record for a freaking plant that God created in the first place…Texas marijuana laws are a joke and must be changed

    1. Keep up the good work officer and thank God that Texas has the common since not to legalize marijuana. I am proud of Texas for standing there ground on this subject.

      1. It’s a stupid battle that people like you need to realize you lost and get on with your lives. I bet you are a supporter of people openly carrying a handgun but not someone just driving with less than two ounces of marijuana. I bet he had less than two grams of the stuff. Texas is ignorant and needs to change their ways for the better and realize its a cash crop. Legalize marijuana and you’ll have more money to afford all these new police vehicles I keep seeing and fix some of these damaged roads

      2. Lol I’m a pothead… and it is not since it is sense. I am a successful business owner and when I go home at night instead of a beer or a glass of wine, I like a joint. Hopefully Texas will legalize soon and hop on the money train.

    2. I don’t know if marijuana should be legal or not, but the fact is right now it’s not. We don’t get to choose which laws we want to obey based on whether or not we agree with them. This young man has an arrest on his record because he chose to break the law, not because Texas has a bad law.

      1. All I am saying is that if you believe in God then I hope you have the intelligence to believe in marijuana. Because if you go to church on Sunday and hate marijuana on Monday then you are what is wrong with this country.

Once you look at the medical benefits that cannabis provides to the human race how can you be against it?

      2. People break the law every day including cops but they don’t get in trouble for it because they’re “above” the law. Targeting recreational smokers does no good and is a waste of time. There are several bad laws every state and country has

      1. Not every one is allergic to poison ivy and oak. I’m not. Soon as the generation that was raised in day care centers are in complete control and the older generation is in the rest homes, pot will be legalized.
