TUITION AND FEE GAP BETWEEN BLINN, STATE UNIVERSITIES INCREASES

  

Blinn College students will save more than ever in 2016-17 when compared to students at universities across the state.

According to figures compiled by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s CollegeForAllTexans.com, Blinn College students taking 30 credit hours during the 2016-17 academic year will save thousands in tuition and fees compared to students at both public and private universities across the state. At a time when state lawmakers are calling for universities across the state to better manage tuition and fees, the gap between Blinn’s tuition and fees and those of the average Texas public university increased compared to last year.

At just $4,824 for 30 credit hours, Blinn’s out-of-district tuition and fees offer students a savings of $3,835, or 44.3 percent, compared to state residents at the average Texas public university. The average tuition and fees for Texas residents at a public university is $8,659.

Students who choose to attend Blinn instead of one of the state’s 37 private universities save more than $22,000 over the course of the year. With the average Texas private university costing $27,518, out-of-district Blinn students save $22,694, or 82.5 percent.

Last year, out-of-district Blinn students taking 30 credit hours saved $3,345 (40.2 percent) compared to state residents at the average Texas public university and $21,527 (81 percent) compared to students at the average Texas private university.

In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors and experiences. Blinn students and prospective students can also register for external scholarships and participate in grant programs.

Blinn’s academic transfer rate regularly ranks among the highest in the state and the nation. According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 39.5 percent ranks second in the state and far exceeds the statewide average of 22.0 percent.

In addition to transfer agreements with the state’s leading four-year universities, Blinn is home to pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM (Transfer Enrollment at A&M) Program and the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn.
