BRIDGE COLLAPSES IN SEALY; 12-YEAR OLD GIRL DEAD

A 12-year old girl is dead; her mother life-flighted to a Houston hospital after a partial bridge collapse Thursday morning in Sealy.

Sealy Police say a tractor trailer struck the bridge on Highway 90 at Highway 36, causing it to collapse around 10 a.m. and parts of the bridge landed on a passing car.

12-year-old Brien Bollock died from her injuries.  Her 9-year old sister was able to get out safely.  Their mother, 35-year old Leah Bollock, who was driving the car, was taken by Life Flight to the hospital with a critical chest injury.

The truck driver, 72-year old Carl Weige, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy.

The truck belongs to Texas Disposal Systems, Inc., out of Buda.

Sealy Police say the boom on the truck, which delivers dumpsters, was still raised.

Chief Chris Noble says the truck hit the warning device that hangs over the roadway to alert drivers that they may hit the bridge, but continued on and struck bridge so hard that it knocked off a section of concrete and dislodged a steel beam.

Austin County Judge Tim Lapham says the state has the bridge scheduled to be replaced in 2017.
