A lifeguard from the Blue Bell Aquatic Center is being honored today (Thursday) by the Brenham City Council, for saving the life a little boy over the Fourth of July weekend a year ago.

On July 3rd of last year, John Schroeter, helped save the life of a little boy who nearly drowned.

According to Aquatic Supervisor Tammy Jaster, Schroeter saw the boy go underwater in the baby pool and not resurface.

Schroeter jumped into the pool, pulled the child out, and administered rescue breathing, which resuscitated the child.  Schroeter continued to care for the child until EMS arrived and continued to provide care.

Schroeter was awarded the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award – one of the highest awards presented by the organizations.

Jaster says Schroeter’ s actions “exemplify the highest degree of concern of one human being for another who is in distress.”

Schroeter will be honored at the start of this afternoon’s city council meeting.
