GRIMES CO. COMMISSIONERS TAKE STEP TO KEEP BULLET TRAIN AWAY

  

Grimes County Commissioners approved a plan Tuesday to keep the new bullet train that connects Houston to Dallas out of the county.

According to County Judge Ben Leman, "Grimes County will require a permit to be approved by Commissioner's Court before construction can begin on any high speed rail project where it crosses a county road.”

However the Texas Central Railway Managing Director for External Affairs, Holly Reed, said in response that no action by the Commissioners Court on Tuesday changes anything in the project’s ongoing development. She went on to say that it was a “disappointment that Grimes County chose to grow government and create inefficient path work of regulations”. Texas Central says they have done due diligence to make sure the rail line is privately funded and profitable.

Lawmakers are expected to hear from both sides during an upcoming legislative session in Austin.
