BASTROP COUNTY REMEMBERS 2011 FIRE
A memorial service was held Sunday in Bastrop County to remember the fifth anniversary of the most destructive wildfire in Texas history.
The service, held in the Bastrop Convention Center, recalled the Complex Fire that burned some 34,000 acres and destroyed 1,660 homes. Two people were killed during the fire.
Those who attended Sunday’s event were asked to commemorate the fire by placing rose tiles on a large cutout imprint of the 2011 burn scar. It will be transformed into a multicolored mosaic and displayed in the Bastrop County Courthouse.
