WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS DELCARE OFFICIAL PERIOD FOR READ PROGRAM

  

The Washington County Commissioners Court declared September 6th through October 18th as the official period for the county’s READ program.

The Washington County READ program is an offset of the Lifetime Learning organization. The program encourages all members of the community to participate in reading the same book. This year, the novel chosen is Tom Piazza’s City of Refuge.

The novel follows two New Orleans families- one black and one white- as they confront how the Hurricane Katrina changes their lives.

The 2016 Chairmen of the READ program, Dr. Walter Jackson and Rev. Randy Wells, invite members of the community to a free reception on October 18th. The reception will feature a dramatic reading and a selection of personal stories about Hurricane Katrina.
