TEXAS HOUSE PASSES 3-D MAMMOGRAPHY BILL

A bill that requires all commercial insurance providers in Texas to cover 3-D mammography passed the House of Representative in a unanimous vote on Friday.

Texas House Bill 1036 will now proceed to the Texas Senate for consideration.

According to medical experts, 3-D mammography provides patients with a better chance for early detection of breast cancer.

If your insurance doesn’t cover the cost of 3-D mammography, you could end up paying anywhere from $50 to $150 out of pocket.

The bill was introduced on January 1st by Texas Representative Senfronia Thompson, a democrat from Houston.

  1. \We applaud the Texas House of Representatives and Rep. Thompson for taking a stand on women’s breast health and passing HB 1036. We are one step closer for the women of Texas to have peace of mind that their 3-D mammograms, the most advanced form of screening available, will be covered by insurance. This is step one of a three-step process, but Texas is headed in the right direction. – James Polfreman, president and CEO of Solis Mammography.
