BLINN BRENHAM CAMPUS TO HOST FLUTE FEST SATURDAY

The Blinn College-Brenham Campus will host its second annual Flute Fest featuring guest artist Dr. Shauna Thompson Saturday, Jan. 26, in the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility (map).

The event will run from noon to 4:30 p.m. and includes a low flute petting zoo that gives students an opportunity to play instruments such as bass flutes and a massive contrabass flute. The event also features separate and combined workshops for beginning through college flutists, junior high and high school/college master classes, and a recital by Thompson. Snacks, water, and door prize drawings will be provided.

Thompson is an Assistant Professor of Flute at Texas Christian University, coordinator of the Professional Flute Choir Competition for the National Flute Association, co-chair for the Texas Flute Society’s annual festival, and coordinator of the Donna Marie Haire Competition.

The event is open to flutists of all ages and abilities, and registration is $10. To register, email blinnflutefest@gmail.com and include name, school, grade, and email address. Those interested in performing in the master classes should email Jessica Borski at jessica.borski@blinn.edu. Exact cash is preferred, payable at check-in.

Bobbi Prewitt, flute specialist with Music & Arts, will be present to showcase flutes and accessories. For a personalized appointment to purchase a flute or specific accessory, please contact Prewitt at bprewitt@musicarts.com.  Story courtesy of Blinn College.
