BLINN FACULTY SENATE VOTES NO CONFIDENCE IN BLINN PRESIDENT NOLTE

Blinn College President Harold Nolte’s  big changes in the structure of the College has led to a short but harsh vote of no confidence from the faculty senate.

The faculty senate passed a ‘no confidence’ vote against Nolte in a meeting held last (Wednesday) night.  This is the harshest resolution the body could pass.  The faculty senate also expressed no confidence in Vice President for Instruction Cynthia Griffith.

This was an unusual meeting because the faculty senate usually does not meet in the summer months.

This resolution was passed during a public comment section of the meeting so the Blinn Board of Trustees will not be able to comment or act on the resolution , during their regular monthly meeting on the Brenham campus Tuesday..  In the future however, the Board can decide what to do with Nolte’s contract.   Nolte became the Blinn College District President in the fall of 2011.

A year later Nolte announced a major re-organization of the college, which he said at the time, would give instructors more time with students by essentially replacing department heads with six college deans. Blinn did not have a system of deans prior to this.

The Blinn reeoganization met with a storm of controversy in recent Blnn Board meetings.

This reorganization met with a storm of disapproval from faculty, most from the Brazos County Campus during the regular board meetings in March and April.

Bryan campus political science professor Joe Engle said that the administration marched forward with the changes without engaging in a dialogue with the faculty.

Faculty Senate President Robert Nelson said the resolution was a short one but it did express  a lack cf confidence in the current administration.
