Buccaneers get outhit but still topples South Suburban, 4-2

HOUSTON, Texas – Blinn College baseball might have gotten outhit by South Suburban College March 11 but the Buccaneers did enough with their chances to pull out a 4-2 victory on the campus of San Jacinto College in Houston.

Cullen Jozwiak had two of the five hits for Blinn with a single and a double while Jose Reyes and Conner Smith each had an RBI in the victory. Justin Penney picked up the win for the Buccaneers as Blinn pitched a total of five pitchers in the victory.

Blinn got the scoring going early on as Jozwiak got it going with a one-out double and then Jager Toffan was hit by a pitch two batters later to get two on. Both Jozwiak and Toffan scored on a South Suburban error for a 2-0 lead after one.

South Suburban did get a run back in the second inning but Blinn was able to regain its two-run lead in the bottom half. Stephen Stuart was able to reach on an error and then Reyes made the score 3-1 after a ground out to score Stuart.

South Suburban again got within a run in the fifth inning with a single run to make the score 3-2 but Blinn again would create a little distance.

With two outs in the eighth Ben Upton was able to draw a walk and then came around to score on a double by Smith to right for a 4-2 lead. The score would remain at 4-2 as Blinn improved it record to 14-8 overall and are 5-7 in conference.

Blinn will get back to conference play as it hosts Laredo Community College March 13 for a double-header that starts at 4 p.m.
