It’s scarecrow season in Chappell Hill.

The annual Chappell Hill Scarecrow Festival, put on by the Chappell Hill Historical Society, has all kinds of activities planned beginning Saturday morning and running through Sunday evening.

Chappell Hill Historical Society President Joel Romo says hundreds of vendors from across the country will be set up, selling a variety of goods.

This year’s entertainment lineup at the festival includes performances from Abigail Taylor, the Heart String Band, Ryan Elise Fatheree, and the Mexico Sol y Luna Dance Group.

Romo says there’s hardly a reason to not stop by Chappell Hill this weekend, especially with the much cooler temperatures.

The Chappell Hill Historical Society has also announced the winners of its annual Scarecrow Contest.

First place scarecrow went to Carol Locke, with her “Country Quilters” entry. Eddie and Janis Kmiec won second with their “Beekeeper” scarecrow, and third place went to Dave and Darlene Wyatt, for their “Witch on a Broom”.

Honorable mentions were Paul Whittaker’s “Pickleball Girl” and the Koteras Kourt Vendor Lot’s “Two Scarecrows Welcoming Visitors and Festival Vendors”.

The festival opens Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and continues until 6 p.m. It will reopen Sunday morning at 10 p.m. and close at 5 p.m.  Entry to the festival is free.  Parking is available off Highway 290 and FM 1155, or off of FM 2447, at $5 per car.
