GRIENKE LEADS ASTROS TO WIN; RANGERS RALLY TO BEAT MARINERS

Martine Moldonado

A strong start from Zach Grienke, backed by a Martine Moldonado home run led the Astros to a 5-1 win over San Francisco.

Grienke (1-0), scattered seven hits over six and-a-third innings, yielding just one earned run and striking out seven.

Houston held a 2-1 lead, when Moldonado ripped his second homer of the season.  It was just the team’s second win in their past eight games.

The Astros have Thursday off and will be back at home Friday night against Seattle.  First pitch is set for 8:10 with Astro-Launch at 7:35 on AM 1280 KWHI and FM 101.7.

The Rangers rallied for five runs in the eighth and held on for a 7-4 win over Seattle.

Willie Calhoun

Texas trailed 4-2, when they tied the game in the eighth on an rbi-single from Jeff Mathis and a sacrifice fly by Shin Soo-Choo. Todd Frazier gave the Rangers the lead when he scored on a wild pitch.  Willie Calhoun added two insurance runs with an rbi-single.

Rafael Montero shut down the Mariners in the 9th to save the win for Joe Hernandez.

The Rangers have an off-day, Thursday, before they travel to Denver to face the Rockies, Friday.
