HIGH-SPEED CHASE ENDS IN BRENHAM

A high-speed chase that began overnight near Hempstead, ended with the arrests of two men in Brenham.

The wild chase began when Waller County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over Lorenzo Hernandez and Adam Alcozer on Highway 290, near FM-1488.

The two reportedly led authorities down 290 into Washington County, at speeds up to 120 miles per hour.

At one point, the two rammed one Waller County patrol car and sideswiped a second.

The chase ended when the suspect’s tires were spiked in Brenham.

Alcozer reportedly tried to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

During the chase, Waller County authorities say the two tossed over $50,000 worth of methamphetamine out of the car window, which was retreived.

Two Waller County deputies were treated for minor injuries.

Hernandez and Alcozer are charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Possession of Controlled Substance, Tampering with Evidence, and Evading Arrest.

DPS Troopers, Hempstead Police, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and Brenham Police assisted in the chase.

  1. I was unknowingly in the middle of that case of “Hot Pursuit”. I accessed 290 headed for Brenham about 10:30 PM after my granddaughter’s dance recital at Cy Ranch H. S. on Fry Road. Traffic was heavy with all lanes full but moving at less than usual speed. When traffic cleared enough to have the “Left Lane For Passing Only” open and the traffic to accelerate to the 65 mph speed level, I was in the right lane. Shortly thereafter a white full size car “blew” by me at maybe 90+ mph. Not immediately later a DPS without lights or sirens went by at a high rate of speed. Just before Waller, I was the 2nd car waved through a road block on 290 and heard the flash light waving DPS officer on my right shout “Go Hard” across my car. There were several DPS observed traveling with emergency lights on both sides of 290 between there and Hempstead.

I was watching for my first exit for Brenham and did not notice the DPS cars until they passed on either side of me in that exit. The first intersection light being green, I went to my intended turn right onto Market. There I observed a white car similar to the one that “blew” by me much earlier, surrounded by police cars, and being approached with drawn guns and an open hand reaching out the lower passenger side door. Granny beat it on home thinking the people in that car must have more than a few laws to have attracted that many officers.
