MIDLAND, Texas — The Blinn College men’s basketball team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season as Midland College managed to get past the Buccaneers 97-95 in triple overtime Friday night in the Chaparral Center.
“Although we are disappointed in the outcome, I am very proud of our guys for competing and playing hard the whole game,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “It is very difficult to win out here and we had a chance to win it, but just didn’t convert.”
Tristan Ikpe recorded his second double-double in the Midland Classic with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Cardell McGee led the offense with 23 points, while AJ Rainey led Blinn with six steals and five assists, and scored 15 points. Azariah Seay, Pedro Castro, and Calvin Carpenter all tallied 10 points.
After falling behind 42-34 in the first half, the Buccaneers fought back to even the score, 69-69, to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, the Chaparrals pulled ahead 76-74 with 34 seconds remaining, but Blinn rallied for two points to send the game into double overtime.
Blinn built an 85-80 lead in double overtime, however Midland fought back with an 8-3 run to tie the game, 88-88, for the game to go into triple overtime.
Midland and Blinn rotated the lead in the third overtime until the Chaparrals pulled ahead by two points and were able to stay on top for the 97-95 victory.
Next, Blinn will conclude the Midland Classic against Taylor Made Prep on Saturday, November 9, at 10 a.m.
