ROOF OF HISTORIC COLLEGE STATION NIGHT SPOT COLLAPSES

The roof of a historic night spot adjacent to Texas A&M collapsed during heavy rainfall, Wednesday night.

Firefighters were called out to The Dixie Chicken at Northgate in College Station, just before 9:00 p.m.

Officials say there were several customers inside when the roof gave way, but no one was injured.

The College Station Fire Department used a ladder truck to extend over the roof to inspect the building.  Crews worked for several hours on stabilizing the structure until more inspections could take place.

Officials at Texas A&M tweeted, Wednesday night: "Thinking of our neighbors at @thedixiechicken tonight. We know this won't be the last time we hear 'Goodnight Irene.'

  1. Thankfully nobody was injured …but in the new normal of Covid 19, why was this bar allowed to be open anyway? Texas could have gone slower like other larger states such as California, Michigan and New York and be waiting to reopen bars and nightclubs like this. Beyond the roof collapsing the bigger danger was people gathering to drink alcohol, which inhibits the ability to do social distancing.

    1. Ok KAREN, please be my guest and move to one of those states of which you speak. I think you would fit in much better there than here. If you don’t want to go to the bars, restaurants, movies, theme parks etc don’t go! Stay home. Many people are tired of living in fear. I-10 and 35 run both ways and gas is cheap right now. Head on out! We won’t miss you.

    2. Give it a rest already!! Because of people like you hospitals are laying off people!! We are not in the crisis that is being portrayed!! Open up and live!!

    3. Lord help us all when we start doing things like California, Michigan, and New York. These states are examples of what a failed state government looks like.

    4. It’s open because this is America and the owners are allowed to make a living. And, also in America, people have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I’m guessing those who were there drinking were exercising the third one.

The lockdown was meant to flatten the curve. Not eliminate it.
