SALES TAX REBATES MIXED FOR LOCAL AREA

  

Brenham had a decline in sales tax rebates from this time last year in the latest report from the State Comptroller’s office. Burton also showed a slight decline but Washington County had a slight increase.
Brenham received $448,101 from the state last month. That’s a 1.78% decline from one year ago. Brenham has received $3.35 million in sales tax rebates so far this year, a 2.74 % percent decline.
Burton received $2360 in sales tax rebates last month. Last year at this time Burton had received $2850. For the year, Burton has seen an increase in sales tax rebates. Burton has had an increase for the year so far, receiving $20,164, a 9.2 percent increase over last year at this time.

Washington County saw an increase in sales tax rebates. The Comptroller’s office reports the county received $193,752, up from $184,642 at this time last year. The county has received $1.4 million in sales tax rebates so far this year, a .87% increase.
State Comptroller Susan Combs announced this week that her office has distributed $603 million in monthly sales tax rebates to local governments in Texas.
She said sales taxes continue to grow at a moderate pace. The increase was led by wholesale taxes and the restaurant sector.
