Sealy Mayor Janice Whitehead has abruptly announced her resignation.
At the end of Tuesday’s virtual meeting of the Sealy City Council, Whitehead told councilmembers that she would be tendering her resignation from the position.
Whitehead stated that she would no longer be residing in Sealy city limits as of September 16th, but she will stay on as a “holdover mayor” until another is elected.
For legality reasons, no councilmembers could immediately comment on Whitehead’s announcement. City Attorney Tim Kirwin said he would send an email to the council with further information after the meeting.
Whitehead has served as mayor since defeating Michael Kubricht in an election in 2017, succeeding previous mayor Mark Stolarski.
