A 30-year old Austin man has been arrested on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a 13-year old Flatonia girl.
Lt. David Beyer of the Fayette County Sheriff’s office says they began investigating the case in December when the girl went missing from a Flatonia school.
Investigator Angela Jasek of the Sheriff’s office assisted the Flatonia police department with the initial investigation. As the investigation proceeded it became clear the case was not a kidnapping but a juvenile girl being assault by someone whom she had met on social media.
A two month long investigation led to Jasek identifying 30-year old Miguel Angel Gutierrez as the suspect.
Austin police arrested him and he was released on a $100,000 PR bond.Lt. Beyer of the Fayette County Sheriff’s office says it is important that parents and law enforcement work together to protect their children, now with social media being so prominent in our society.
Beyer says it is important to let young people know that the only people they should be talking to on social media are people they know.
