BATHROOM CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TERMINATION TABLED THURSDAY

Brenham City Council was forced to table the termination of the construction contract with GCP Contactors after their Executive Session Thursday.  GCP was awarded the bid in July of last year for new bathroom facilities at Fireman’s Park, but so far only the foundations and sidewalks have been constructed.  Council had authorized letters announcing the termination intent at their meeting 2 weeks ago.  Those letters were sent to GCP and their surety company, but it took several attempts before it was actually delivered to GCP.  Because of the delay, the required 10 day waiting period had not passed before yesterday’s council meeting.  The possible termination of the contract will again be on the City Council agenda for their February 15th meeting.

Progress on the new bathroom facility at Fireman's Park has stopped for now.

  1. There are local subcontractors as part of this contract who now have materials for the project in storage and now have no way to collect for their payment. Bonding settlements will take another round of proof of materials in storage and could take months to get payments. These bills were due last year.
