BRENHAM P.D. URGES CAUTION AFTER BANK JUGGING INCIDENT

The Brenham Police Department is urging citizens to use caution when transporting money to and from the bank after a “bank jugging” incident occurred Thursday.

Police say bank jugging is when people loiter in a bank parking lot and wait for patrons to exit the building, usually with large amounts of money in hand. The suspects then follow the patron to their car or home and either rob the person or burglarize the car in order to get the money.

According to Brenham Police, the recent bank jugging incident occurred at 9:40 Thursday morning in the 2200 block of S. Market Street.

The victim said someone had broken out the window of his vehicle and stolen a large sum of money in a black bank bag. As the investigation continued, the victim revealed he had withdrawn the money approximately 30 minutes before and driven to the business on Market Street.  It was while he was in the business for just a short time that his vehicle was broken into and the money was stolen.

Brenham Police urge business owners and community members to use caution when transporting substantial amounts of money to and from a bank. Furthermore, they ask citizens be aware of their surroundings and recommend people never leave money in their vehicle, even if it’s locked.
