CLICK IT OR TICKET CAMPAIGN BEGINS TODAY

TxDot’s “Click it or Ticket campaign begins today (Monday) and will run through June 5th. Law enforcement across Texas will crack down on drivers who don't wear their seat belts, as part of this year's "Click It or Ticket" campaign. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, putting on a seat belt is second nature for around than 90% of people, yet there are still others that are injured or killed from not wearing a seatbelt while in a car.

The Bryan district TxDOT reports that they saw 69 fatalities and serious injuries last year due to not buckling properly.

Beginning at the end of the month, TxDOT officials are asking police departments across the state to stay on top of seat belt violations. In Texas, a citation for not wearing a seat belt can cost up to $200 - or $250 if the offense involves an unrestrained child.

Seat belts increase a person's chance of survival in a regular-sized car collision by 40%, and 60% when riding in a pickup. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that around 50% of people killed in crashes nationwide did not buckle up.
