FAYETTE CO. CREWS EXTINGUISH TRUCK FIRE NEAR WEST POINT

  

Fayette County first responders were called out to a big rig driving while on fire Tuesday night.

Around 9:10 p.m., dispatch received an emergency call reporting an 18-wheeler truck on fire while pulling an empty trailer.  The truck was travelling eastbound on State Highway 71 near Makinson Road, west of La Grange in the West Point area.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Meagher, along with the La Grange Fire Department, responded to the scene.  Upon arrival, Meagher saw flames coming from the engine area, and used his fire extinguisher.  The fire department arrived shortly afterwards and extinguished the fire.

The driver said he was trying to start the truck after it broke down, and noticed the fire coming from the engine area.  No injuries were reported.
