FORMER CUBS SUTTON & WATTS FEATURED IN 2017 TEXAS FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

Courtland Sutton (SMU Football)

The 2017 edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine has hit the newsstands and includes features on a pair of former Brenham Cubs.

In the College Football section, readers will find articles on Cub alums, Courtland Sutton and Tyler Watts.

Sutton, a junior wide receiver at SMU, is featured on page 126, in the Mustangs’ preview.

Sutton made the decision to stay at SMU, rather than enter the NFL draft.  The article describes Sutton (6’4”, 215) as “…the best non-Power Five—and perhaps, the best overall—wide receiver in the country.”

Tyler Watts (Texas Statd Football)

In the past two seasons with the Ponies, Sutton has caught 125 passes for 2108 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Watts is entering his junior season with the Bobcats.  In 2016 he started 11 of the team’s 12 games at wide receiver.

The Brenham-native (5’8”, 165) led the team with 43 receptions for a total of 364 yards and a touchdown.

In the feature, on page 169, Coach Everett Withers calls Watts, “embodies every intangible required of a successful player.’

The story describes how Watts, a non-scholarship walk-on, eventually earned his scholarship and became a starter for the Bobcats.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine is available on newsstands now.

  3. Yay Tyler and Courtland !!! What a well deserved honor. You both are exceptional young men who so well deserved this honor. Keep making your parents and Brenham PROUD of You !!

    1. I am blessed to know both of these outstanding young men. It’s a testament to their “FAITH”, their rearing parents (Ryian and Phelicia Marshall) (Michael and Fonshell Watts). Coach West and the Brenham Cubs for my 12 years here have provided young people with the opportunity to position themselves to play football after high school and more important earn a college education. God bless these young men and their families who are examples that “parenting does pay off.”
