Interviews have begun for the vacant Assistant City Manager’s position with the City of Brenham.

City Manager Terry Roberts says four interviews have been conducted by phone, with three of those asked to come to Brenham for face-to-face interviews.

Roberts says the city received approximately 80 applications for the post that opened up when former assistant city manager Rex Phelps, took a similar position in Haltom City, near Dallas.

Roberts says background and reference checks are taking place with the candidates who were interviewed.

City officials hope to have a candidate finalized the next 30 days.

  1. I have noticed a string of comments that take a very negative tone toward Terry Roberts, almost to the point that it seems as if someone has “an axe to grind”. From everything I know of him, his performs seems to be very balanced, wise, and honest. He has worked with multiple counsel members and mayors, all of whom seem to trust and depend upon him. From an objective standpoint, we appear to have a city manager who seeks the will of the City Council (our elected representatives) and strives to carry that out. His execution of that direction has always appeared to be done at a high level. I am not sure what else we as taxpayers could want. It is nice to have a wise, hardworking, and experienced person leading our city staff.

      1. Everyone who posts on forums like this are stating an opinion, that is the purpose. However, I would hope that those who feel that Mr. Roberts is not doing a good job would raise those issues directly with him or with their elected City Council Member so that your issue could be objectively evaluated to see if it is indeed a real issue or just a mis-informed opinion.

  2. Though I do not think the city of Brenham is big enough to need that position why do they not hire within like they did with Phelps that is the problem with the city is that they always want to look outside for somebody like they did with Roberts instead of hiring from within the city, I believe that that is a position that can be a lemonade it and say funds to hire more employees somewhere else sounds like too many chiefs and not enough Indians

  3. City council needs to Re-Interview the present city manager and assistant city managers. I doubt if the two of the guys would be hired. Hopefully, the new hire will bring intelligence back to city hall. It has been a real dry stretch here lately.

    1. Mr Roberts and the City Council,
Why DOES the City of Brenham NEED 3 assistant city managers? As far as Mr Roberts, I have a believe the taxpaying citizens of Brenham are not blind to the appearance of impropriety within the city government. It seems as if SPEND MORE MONEY is the policy of this government.

      1. Weird; when I ask questions like yours, they don’t get printed.
