An overflow crowd attended the Grand-Reopening of the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library today (Monday).  This was the public’s first look at the just completed 2 yearlong reconstruction project.  The 3.2 million dollar remolding and addition were made possible by both city funding and private donations.  The program was to take place in the new Roberta Cole Johnson Program Room, but due to the size of the crowd, was moved to the main library space.

The new library has a large central area surrounded by smaller rooms.  It has a media room where patrons can record a video of themselves, a genealogy room, a conference room, smaller study rooms, and even a gaming room to teenagers.  A large children’s area will allow activities to take place without disturbing the other patrons.  Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the facility, even on the new outdoor reading patio.

Adjacent to the library is the new Michael Mansfield Owsley Memorial Playground and serenity garden. The space was made possible by a donation from Robbie Gail Charette in memory of her late husband.  A walking trail winds through the garden and playground and ties the library with the rest of Fireman’s Park.

The new library is officially open now and has new hours of operation. The library will be open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 7pm, Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
