MAN WHO SHOT BURLESON CO. DEPUTY SENTENCED ON DRUG CHARGES

The man who shot and killed a Burleson County deputy in 2013 during a surprise raid has pleaded guilty to drug related charges.

Henry Magee was sentenced to 18 months in jail for felony possession of marijuana.

The charges stem from a no-knock raid in December of 2013 by the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.

During the raid, Magee shot and killed Burleson County Deputy Adam Sowders.

Magee was initially charged with capital murder, however his attorney argued before a grand jury that Magee was acting in self-defense.

Since the SWAT team was not required to identify themselves before entering Magee’s mobile home near Snook, Magee’s attorney argued he fired his weapon against unknown intruders to protect himself and his pregnant girlfriend.

The grand jury dropped the capital murder charge.

During the raid, the SWAT team found marijuana plants and Magee was charged with felony possession of marijuana.

Magee issued his plea in court last week.

  1. So he gets to walk free of murder. How sad. He knew exactly who he looked at before he took that shot. He knew what to expect for the lifestyle he was living. Sorry for the family of Adam Sowders due to Justice not being served. Prayers got out to the family. God is good trust me.

    1. Those “no knock” and even before daylight raids are dangerous for all parties. I totally understand that if a search warrant has been signed then definetly there’s probably illegal activity at the location and a search is needed, but i just dont see the value in forcing entry into anyone’s home where that resident has legal right use lethal force on an intruder. There are also neighbors, pets, and children that could be wildcards. Just keep tabs on who you’re after and catch em driving or possibly out on foot somewhere then gain entry to the residence while its empty.
