SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR DECEMBER

  

Sales tax rebates increased across the board for the month of December.

The City of Brenham received $515,975 this month, up 2.7 percent from December 2016.

For the year, the city has received $6,453,350, an increase of 4.2 percent from the same period last year.

Washington County’s December rebate was $218,197, a 7.3 percent increase from this month last year.

For the year, the county received $2,703,360, up 7.9 percent from 2016.

Burton’s payment for the month totaled $5,760, up 63.3 percent from a year ago – due in large part to a 50-percent tax rate increase.

Its payments for the year total $72,923, up 83.2 percent.

Burton raised its sales tax from 1 percent to 1.5 percent last October.

According to State Comptroller Glenn Hegar $695.2 million in local sales tax rebates were allocated for December, 10.8 percent more than in December of last year.

These allocations are based on sales made in October.
