VIDEO – SNEAK-PEEK AT THE NEW LIBRARY

The local news media got a sneak-peek at the newly remodeled Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library today (Wednesday).  Workers were busy setting up new book shelves and organizing the items moved over from City Hall.  The library moved to the Municipal Building 2 years ago while the remolding was taking place. The new library is 25 percent larger than the old and was funded by a 50 / 50 split of public funds and private donations.

The modernized library features a large central room surrounded by smaller rooms.  A media room will allow users to video themselves for job applications or for skype or YouTube. There are also a new children’s area, a genealogy room, and a large program room for meetings and presentations.  There is even an outdoor patio for reading made possible by a grant from LCRA.

The new library will offer some of the very latest in technology and will have Chromebook computers that match what BISD uses.  The library worked with both the Brenham and Burton school districts to insure that students will have what they need for homework and projects.

The new library will have its official grand opening November 14th at 2pm.  The library will also have new hours when it reopens, Monday through Thursday from 9am to 7pm, Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
