GINGERBREAD HOUSE AUCTION
It’s time once again for people in Brenham and Washington County to decorative gingerbread houses so that families can receive real houses during the annual Habitat for Humanity Gingerbread House Auction.
Habitat for Humanity is getting ready for another great holiday season with gingerbread houses and the gingerbread house auction. Over the past 11 years this auction has been a fun event for the community of Brenham. Leslie Harrell, a coordinator for Washington County Habitat for Humanity organization says they have so many loyal gingerbread fans that come up with creative ideas for their houses and they look forward to making their masterpieces. She says many of the donors start working on them a couple of months in advance. Harrell also says many school classes, organizations and individuals donate houses to the auction in an effort to help people find dignity by giving them a chance to build and live in a home of their own. .
Participants take a pre-fab gingerbread house and decorate them, often with brilliant and beautiful results. The houses are put on display in downtown Brenham during the Christmas Stroll. After that the houses are auctioned off at the Unity Theater on December 9th.
If you want to decorate a gingerbread house you need to act now. Orders for the ‘pre-fab’ houses will be due by Monday, November 4th. The cost is $27 with the checks made payable to Washington County Habitat for Humanity. You can also make a house from scratch if you would like to that for a project. Boards are available at Brenham Abstract.
You can pick up the pre-fab houses on November 18th at Brenham Abstract.
On December 2nd and 3rd, you need to complete your gingerbread house and they are due back at Brenham Abstract. The houses will be on display through Monday, December 9th.
The live auction is at the Unity Theater on December 9th from 5:30 to 7pm. All bids will be finalized on December 9th.
This is a fundraising effort for Habitat, a worldwide charity that seeks to put everyone on earth in a decent home. Those who live in the homes, helped build them. Several Washington County families live in Habitat for Humanity Homes.
