LAST DAY TO VOTE EARLY
State constitutional amendments dealing with the filling unexpired terms, tax exemptions for property owners and the owners of aircraft parts, and most of all water are among the nine proposals before Texas voters in the state constitutional election Tuesday.
Today, (Friday) is the last day to vote early. Registered voters in Washington County can cast their ballots early at the courthouse annex from eight am to five pm through tomorrow.(Friday).
The election judges say that turnout continues to be very light, with only about 500 of the county’s 22,000 registered voters casting ballots so far.
Attracting the most attention in this vote is the proposition six. This would create a fund out of the state emergency reserve (Rainy Day) fund, to create a loan for water projects. The proposal has gotten strong backing from Gov. Rick Perry and District 13 State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham. Kolkhorst has been making the rounds explaining that this proposal could keep the state’s water supply safe for the next fifty years.
Kolkhorst emphasizes the money for the project will be loans, not grants. She also points out that the biggest portion of the water plan is conservation.
Locally, voters in the Oak Hill Acres Subdivision are voting on a bond issue to ensure their water supply.
