FLOOD WARNING AFTER NAVASOTA RIVER BREACHES BANKS

The Navasota River has breached its banks, putting much of the Brazos Valley under a flood warning. Ed Pothul has this report.

Grimes, Madison and Brazos County are under a flood warning until midnight tonight (Tuesday) after the Navasota River breached its banks.

The landscape along the Brazos and Madison County lines is changing.

The waters of the Navasota River started rising last week above flood stage.

Upwards of ten inches of rain fell north of the river last week, filling Lake Limestone to full capacity, causing the Brazos River Authority to open the flood gates.

Texas A&M Meteorologist David Coates says it is likely a large degree of rainfall will mean ‘large bumps in river discharge again.  He says there is a real risk of seeing the river getting ‘reasonably high’ and the large amount of rainfall in the drainage basin will make the situation worse.
