TEXAS APPROVES $2 BILLION WATER FUND AND OTHER ELECTION RESULTS

  

Texas voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 6, a state constitutional amendment that would use $2 billion to create a state water implementation fund.  The proposal passed with a 76 percent margin, 836,395 voted in favor while 303,531 voted against.  This proposition had strong support from Gov. Rick Perry  and State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst.  The Washington County vote reflected the state results.  County voters approved the proposal with 1065 voting in favor and 674 voting against.

Texas voters approved by wide margins, all nine propositions in the state constitutional election and the Washington County vote went right along with the statewide results. 

Proposition 1 passed with an 86 percent margin.  This would exempt a homestead of a spouse who was killed in action from ad valorem taxes.

Proposition 2 would eliminate  the State Medical Board and its education fund.  That proposition passed with an 85 percent margin.

Proposition 3 extended the days aircraft parts are exempt from ad valorem taxes.  That proposal passed with a 57 percent margin.

Proposition 4 passed with an 85 percent margin.  This proposition exempts ad valorem taxes for a home donated to a disabled veteran.

Proposition 5 authorized reverse mortgage loans when purchasing homestead property.  This passed with a 63 percent margin.

Proposition 7 authorized home rule cities to fill vacancy procedures in their charters.  This passed with a 75 percent margin.

Proposition 8 passed with a 73 percent margin.  This proposition repeals the constitution’s maximum rate for the Hidalgo County hospital district.  This proposition passed with 73 percent margin.

Proposition 9, that would expand potential sanctions against a judge or justice passed with an 85 percent margin.

Washington County voters approved the propositions with similar margins.
