VETERANS DAY MONDAY
Monday, November 11th is more than another federal holiday. Veterans’ Day honors all men and women who have put on the uniform of the nation’s armed forces in times of danger and need, and to remember the sacrifices they have made. The Washington County commemoration of the day will be 11amat the American Legion Hall in Fireman's Park.
Barbara Hemmer of the Washington County Veteran’s Associations says it is a time to remember that the veteran soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen, answered the call at a critical time and many suffered. This too, she says, is also a reason to remember Veteran’s Day.
The traditional Washington County celebration of Veterans Day is at the American Legion Hall in Fireman’s Park, at the traditional time, the 11th hour, the 11th day, of the 11th month.
Retired Army Master Sgt. Inge (Inga) Conley of Humble is the keynote speaker. The veterans who have died in the past year will be remembered with the tolling of a bell at the end of the ceremony.
After that, there is a barbecue chicken dinner and many other activities.
KWHI will broadcast the traditional Veterans Day Ceremony, Monday beginning at 10:45am.
