DA RENKEN ORDERED TO CATCH UP ON FORFEITURES
District Attorney Julie Renken told the Washington County Commissioners at their meeting today (Tuesday) that she is responding to mandates from the Texas Attorney General’s office to catch up on reports of assets forfeitures for criminal cases in the County.
She says no reports were filed from her 21st judicial district for the past four years and has spent almost the entire year bringing those records up to date.
These assets are, according to Renken ‘the products of criminal activity.’
Renken told the Commissioners that up until 2010 the asset forfeitures were split between the district attorney’s office and the sheriff’s office. She said these had to be put into two separate accounts. She says the next report will be much easier after catching up on the backup of past reports.
The County Commissioners approved the asset forfeiture report.
