HORSE DIES AFTER GETTING WEST NILE VIRUS

A horse from the eastern part of Washington County had to be destroyed after being afflicted with the West Nile virus.

Dr. Bruce Buenger of the Washington Animal Clinic says the horse was very ill, lying on its side, when it was brought in to the clinic a week ago.

Dr. Buenger says this means all horse owners need to get their animals vaccinated.

Dr. Buenger says the disease can be transmitted to humans.  He says it is a sign that there are mosquitoes in the area carrying the virus.
