RETIRED WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF J.W. JANKOWSKI DIES

  

J.W. Jankowski, who served as Washington County Sheriff for 20 years died early Sunday morning at his home.

Jankowski served as Washington County Sheriff from 1993 TO 2013.  He stepped down after his last term after getting a diagnosis of cancer.

Former Washington County Judge Dorothy Morgan  said she and Jankowski went back to 1991.  She said “He was always professional, always a friend, a good man, a good husband and Dad.”

Salem Volunteer Fire Chief John Santos  said the fire department is sending their condolences and called Jankowski ‘A good friend.”

Jankowski oversaw the opening of the new Washington County Jail, and was regularly recognized for his achievements in area law enforcement.

Jankowski was also a veteran of the U.S Army and served in the Vietnam War.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Memorial Oaks Chapel.  Jankowski was 63.
