INDEPENDENCE SPRING TEXAS HOMES TOUR
The Independence Historical Society will begin their spring tours of early Texas homes in Independence this weekend.
Carol Muegge of The Society says there is plenty to see.
Muegge says these tours, which go on through the weekend of April 5th and 6th, are free to the public, the guided tours, with docents in period costumes, will take visitors through the John P. Coles home, built around 1824 and is thought to be the oldest homes in Washington County. All the structures are adjacent to the Old Baylor Park where visitors can see the original columns of Baylor University.
Muegge says that artisans will be on site demonstrating tatting, bobbin lace making, weaving, spinning, carving, and other early American crafts. Performances by dulcimer players and other stringed instruments will be going on throughout the day.
So pack a picnic lunch, bring the youngsters, step back in time and enjoy a day in the country in historic Independence Texas.
