FOOT CHASE LEADS TO ARREST

Brenham police had to chase down a suspect who appeared threatening to the officers during a late morning traffic stop Tuesday.

Officer Lance Weiss tried to stop a driver on North Chappell Hill and Seelhorst at about 11am Tuesday because his registration sticker had expired.

The man stopped at Pecan Street, got out of his car and began unbuttoning his jacket while he approached the officer.  Weiss tried to detain him but he broke away.  This led to a fifteen minute foot chase before Officer Weiss was able to catch up with him.  While Weiss was involved in the chase, Detective Mike Davis was investigating the car and found a firearm. He also found a prescription anxiety medication and marijuana.

A dispatch check discovered the suspect had several alias, but was commonly known as 27-year old Hernandez Omar Rivera of Hempstead.   Rivera was charged with evading arrest, possession of controlled substances and possession of a firearm by a felon.
