HOUSING SUBDIVISION MAY COME TO THE TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY
The College Station City Council is clearing the way to change the Texas World Speedway from the home of racing events to homes for families.
The College Station City Council unanimously gave conditional consent to transform the Texas World Speedway to a housing subdivision.
The plan now goes to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for its approval of the change.
They will allow the 500 plus acres in College Station’s extra territorial jurisdiction, to become a municipal utility district that would provide housing for 1400 single families, 27 acres of commercial development, 14 acres for the College Station School District and 73 acres of detertion and greenways.
The Texas World Speedway opened in 1968 and was the home of numerous international racing events but the events have declined in recent years.
