CHAMBER TO ANNOUNCE REVAMPED BUY LOCAL CAMPAIGN

Tomorrow’s (Wednesday’s) Governor’s Forum on Small Business at the Fireman’s Training Center,  will feature lessons and updates on the state of small business, inspirational speakers and the announcement of a newly revised Buy Local Program.

Tiffany Winkles of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce says there are cash prizes available later in the year for businesses who encourage people to buy locally, in Brenham and Washington County.

Winkles says in past year the Buy Local Program has been mostly focuses on retail sales and they are encouraging more business to business transactions.

She says each person who buys locally for their business can compete for the top prize of $1000.  Each buyer of the local retail merchandise can enter a similar drawing for a $250 cash prize.

The goal is to increase local sales taxes that would normally take place outside the community.  She says by publishing  their success stories, the chamber can give them more visibility to those local providers.

Winkles notes that for each $100 spent in an independent Washington County business , abot $68 trickles into our local economy for public services.

The Governor’s Small Business Forum is at the Fireman’s Training Center Wednesday from 8am to 1pm.  This forum features classes, discussions and presentations about the state of small business. The event concludes with an inspirational talk from Dr. Rick Rigsby on ‘Making Things Happen.’
