NORTH ZULCH MOURNS LOSS OF VALEDICTORIAN

Saturday night began with great hope with the graduation exercises for North Zulch.  The 26 graduates heard a speech filled with optimism from its valedictorian 18-year Alexandria Vogeler.  A day later she was dead after a head on collision with an 18-wheeler.

Funeral services are set for two pm Wednesday at Willowbrook Chapel in North Zulch.

The valedictorian died when she veered into  the tractor trailer while trying  to avoid another vehicle  Sunday night.   Trooper Jimmy Morgan of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said she was driving at about 10pm, Sunday Vogeler was ejected from the car.  Morgan said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The accident is still being investigated but the small town mourns.

High School Principal Chris Bradshaw said Vogeler was a role model who wanted to pursue a career in the medical field.

Bradshaw said her 26 fellow seniors who walked the stage with Vogeler Saturday night were contacted directly about the accident and told that grief counselors would be available thorugh the school.

Many of the students, their parents and other community members attended a candlelight vigil Monday night at the First Baptist Church in North Zulch.
