DICKEY’S BARBECUE RIBBON CUTTING
The ribbon cutting for one of the biggest chains of Texas barbecue restaurants was held in Brenham today (Thursday).
Lowell Nix is the local owner of the Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant that opened last month, in the Bluebonnet Shopping Center.
Nix has lived in Brenham for 30 years and he is excited about bringing in the slow smoked barbecue to town.
Nix, a Brenham High School graduate, says he is excited to serve the slow smoked barbecue to the community and show them ‘our passion for the art of great barbecue.’ There is something else. Nix says he wants to serve the community, in large part by hiring young people and giving them their first work experience. He says he likes the devotion that Dickey’s has for communities.
Nix is really continuing a long family tradition. His family have been business owners in the Brenham community. His great grandfather Carl Glissman owned an operated a pharmacy in downtown Brenham and his grandfather ‘Buck’ Greenwade was a city engineer in Brenham. His mother is Brenham City Council member Gloria Nix. He considers this new enterprise another way to continue the family legacy.
Dickey’s Barbecue in Brenham will provide slow smoke beef brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, spicy cheddar sausage, Polish sausage, chicken and St. Louis style ribs in a fast, casual atmosphere.
Dickey’s is one of the largest barbecue chains in the nation. Travis Dickey began the eatery in the Dallas area in 1941. Now 73 years later the family run business still offers a quality selection of signature meats, home style sides, and tangy barbecue sauce along with free kids meals every Sunday.
Dickey’s has over 400 locations in 40 states,. One corporation spokesperson said they have even made inroads to states that Texas style barbecue was virtually unknown. They have franchises from Texas, California, Oregon and even North Carolina.
