JUNETEENTH CELEBRATIONS SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Once again it is time to celebrate the end of slavery in Texas and in Washington County.

The Washington County Historic Juneteenth Association plans extensive celebrations beginning Friday and continuing through Saturday.  A dance with the Ra R Zydeco Band providing the music.

Juneteenth Association President Pamela Jenkins says they always hold the celebrations during the Father’s Day Weekend, in advance of the actual holiday.  She says the highlight of the celebration will be the Juneteenth Parade Saturday morning.  Thirty-one floats, bands, local celebrities will join the Juneteenth Royalty  and the Grand Marshal of the Parade.  That Grand Marshal is retired Pickard High School Coach Lorenzo Cole, who Jenkins says is making the occasion a homecoming.

Juneteenth, the Celebration of the end of slavery, will be this weekend.
