IMMIGRATION CRISIS SPARKS ACTION FROM GOVERNOR, LT. GOVERNOR AND HOUSE SPEAKER

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, House Speaker Joe Strauss and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst have authorized emergency funding of $1.3 million per week for Texas Department of Public Safety missions along the Texas/Mexican border.

This money will beef up the presence of troopers  on the ground and in the air and water near the border.

This comes after an influx of children from Central America began coming into the state.

The three top state lawmakers did not put a final price on the new operations but said they would continue through at least the end of the calendar year.  That would put state spending on the effort up to $35 million for this year so far.

The deal was reached Wednesday and arrived at over telephone calls and meeting among senior staffers.  Some 60,000 unaccompanied children and teens are expected to cross the Texas border this year.

DPS Director Steven McCraw has given orders to begin a surge operation to combat the ‘flood of illegal immigration into the state.’

Perry, Dewhurst and Strauss, in a letter sent to McCraw, goes on to blast the federal government for ‘creating an incentive for families to send their children on a dangerous and some times, fatal journey.’
