RESCUE AT LAKE SOMERVILLE

A dramatic rescue took place early Sunday night at Lake Somerville.

Five people, including a 2-year-old baby, had to be rescued when a boat capsized on Lake Somerville.

Somerville Police reporte the boat capsized around 6:15 Sunday night. Family members on shore, who saw it happen, ran to the park entrance and asked a worker to call 911.

A Somerville police officer and firefighter used another civilian’s boat to pull the people to safety.

The four adults and baby were in the water for about 30 minutes. The baby was treated for hypothermia. One of the three men on-board was treated after swallowing too much water.

The boaters were cited by the game warden for not having enough life jackets on board.

Under Texas law, there must be a life jacket for everyone on the boat. Anyone 12 and under is required to wear a life jacket while on the water.
