FATAL CRASH NEAR BURTON

  

A Ledbetter man is dead after an early-morning accident on Highway 290 near Burton.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says 27-year old Misael Garza III was killed when his 2009 Toyota 4-door collided with a 2012 Volkswagen 4-door, driven by 33-year old Jason Payne of Georgetown.

DPS troopers say Garza was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct-two Justice of the Peace Douglas Cone.  His body was taken to Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Payne was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan with several broken bones.  He is in stable condition.

The accident occurred just before 3:30 Saturday morning on Highway 290, just west of Burton.

Highway 290 was completely shut down for over an-hour-and-a-half, before traffic was eventually allowed pass.

The investigation into this deadly crash continues.
