SOMERVILLE RESIDENTS CONSIDER NEW SCHOOL BOND PROPOSALS

The Somerville school district is making a pitch for a bond proposal for the second time this year, including a brand new elementary school.

The aging schools in the district concerns Superintendent Charles Camarillo, who wants voters to pass a 12.5 million dollar bond proposal to build the new elementary school, and move it to where the rest of the schools are and create one big physical plant.

Along with a new elementary school, but also renovation of the high school, including adding science labs and more windows.

In May the bond plan vote was defeated by just ten votes. If this bond is approved, construction could begin next summer.

If the bond fails, the superintendent says the school board would consider other options, or maybe a smaller bond proposal in the future.
